With Seun Kuti currently in police custody, his scheduled performance in Spain has been postponed.
Musician Afrobeat is scheduled to perform in Mallorca, Spain on May 20, 2023.
However, that appears to be on hold, with the singer being held in police custody for another four days, after being extended to facilitate further investigation into his case.
Kuti was arrested after surrendering for assaulting a uniformed police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State on Saturday, May 13, 2023.
In the viral video, the male singer is seen repeatedly shouting at the officer, before punching him in the face. Immediately after the video appeared on social networks, Inspector General of Police Usman Baba issued a statement ordering the arrest of the musician.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform.
“The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly,” the statement read.
