Giovanni Branchini, the agent to former Brazil striker, Ronaldo de Lima, has accused Barcelona of “humiliating” him prior to his move to Inter Milan.
Ronaldo spent only one year at Barca after signing from PSV Eindhoven in a then-world record deal.
Barcelona were reportedly in talks to tie Ronaldo down to a nine-year contract and former president Josep Lluis Nenez claimed the deal was done.
But Branchini had other ideas and announced he would be taking his client to Inter Milan after his release clause of £22.26million was activated.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Branchini said: “We had a meeting where if Barcelona had presented us a clean contract, we would have signed it. If not, what do we do? There was a small dossier with teams like Lazio, Inter and Rangers.
“We had nothing against the renewal with Barcelona, but we did not want image [rights] contracts and complicated situations.
“We did not want to go down a path that would endanger the future of the most important player in the world. He had to get into fights that did not concern him.”
