Chuks Ibegbu, the immediate past spokesman of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has commended ex-Senate President, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, for declaring interest to run for the seat of Nigerian President in the coming 2023 general election.

Our Source reported that Senator Anyim, had on Saturday while declaring his intention, said he will contest whether the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zones the position to the South-East or not.

The former President of the Nigerian Senate told reporters that the PDP was being repositioned as the national convention would mark the start of political activities.

Anyim, who was also a former Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), said the President Muhammadu Buhari administration needed to concentrate on governance.

His words, “Such calls resurfaced in the early part of 2021 and I chose to be quiet.

“We have less than 18 months to the next elections and I feel the time is ripe to indicate my interest”.

Reacting through a statement forwarded to Our Source on Sunday, Ibegbu, noted that the declaration was highly encouraging and would change the political climate in Nigeria.

The Ohanaeze chieftain called on the Igbo political class and Nigeria political stakeholders to work assiduously until the just and equity project is realized.

He also congratulated the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for the successful conduct of its national convention, and as well, the emergence of Oyricha Ayu as the new National Chairman of the former ruling party in Nigeria.

Ibegbu reiterated the quest by the people of the Igbo nation for fair and equitable Nigeria, and however, urged all political parties in Nigeria to do the needful and zone their presidential ticket to the southeast.

Meanwhile, the Igbo Think Tank (ITT), an umbrella body of Igbo professionals, has cautioned all the political parties to the coming November 6 Governorship election in Anambra State, and the pro-Biafra groups.

Board of Trustees Chairman of the body, Professor Maduike Ezeibe, on Sunday, charged all stakeholders from Igbo extraction to work assiduously and collectively to realize the objectives of the Nigeria Presidency of Igbo ethnic bloc, which is to make the Igbo land the best-developed part of Africa in less than twenty years.

He noted that Ndigbo can achieve a lot with or without the federal government but with the will to make it happen.

Prof Ezeibe further noted that the group will not rest on its oars until the objective is achieved.
