National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) launches Hyundai Kona EV, Nigeria’s first locally-assembled all-electric vehicle in Abuja.

Driving range for Kona Electric is 482 km with an acceleration of (0-100kms) in 9.7 secs.

The Hyundai Kona comes with a 5 years of battery warranty and 5 years of vehicle warranty.

Hyundai Kona Electric car has a starting price of N24 million.

Jelani Aliyu, the director-general of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), has unveiled the Hyundai Kona EV, the Nigeria’s first locally-assembled electric vehicle, into the Nigerian market.

The unveiling of the all-electric ‘Hyundai Kona’, which took place in Abuja on Friday, was announced by NADDC on its official Twitter page.

Distinguished personalities at the unveiling of Hyundai Kona Electric Vehicle includes Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, as well as Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.

According to the statement posted on NADDC Twitter handle, the roadshow will run for three days, starting from February 5 to 7, at various locations across the city of Abuja.

“The Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council NADDC Mallam Jelani Aliyu, MFR, invites the general public to the grand unveiling of Hyundai Kona, Nigeria’s first Locally Assembled Electric Car, which will be followed by a road show across the city of Abuja.

“Catch up with us at the following locations: Silverbird Entertainment Center, Banex Plaza, AYA junction Asokoro, Transcorp Junction, National Assembly and Federal Secretariat.”

The Abuja unveiling comes nearly three months after the lifestyle-oriented all-electric car was first presentated by Stallion Motors in Lagos in November 2020.

Speaking during the unveiling in Lagos, MD, VON Automobiles, Mr Rohtagi Manish, said that the EV comes with 5 years of battery warranty and 5 years of vehicle warranty. He added that the vehicle will have a starting price of N24 million.

Driving range for Kona Electric is 482 km with an acceleration of (0-100kms) in 9.7 secs. Kona EV can easily be charged by plugging it in at home or at work. It takes 9.35 hrs to charge the battery to full capacity.
