Some unidentified gunmen suspected to be militia have reportedly attacked a community in Kogi State on Thursday morning while residents were observing their early morning prayers.

Reports had it also that the incident which happened in Okofi, a community under the Kogi Local Government Area may have claimed the life of the Ikofi Chief Imam alongside other residents who were praying before the militiamen struck.

Naija News learnt that the Thursday morning incident was a reprisal of an attack which happened during the last weekend in the community. It is reported that there has been a running battle between the Bassa and the Ebira communities, with a militia of one of the tribes allegedly ‘fingered’ in this attack.

It was reported that the gunmen ambushed a vehicle along Kpareke- Agbudu- Agaga road, conveying some Bassa people who were during the last weekend returning from Lokoja market to their community.

We are yet to get information on the numbers of people killed.

” We don’t know those behind the attack but the CP has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the investigation to commence investigation on the attack and to ensure that the Police unravels those behind the attack,” he added.

Meanwhile, a police station in Inen community in Oruk-Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has been burnt down by suspected cultists.
