USA’s United Soccer League (USL) championship side, Austin BOLD FC have confirmed the death of Nigeria international, Isaac Promise, at the age of 31 years, NK Media reports.
Promise, who once captained Nigeria U20s, Flying Eagles, died on Thursday, Austin BOLD President, Bobby Epstein, confirmed in the club’s official website.
Also capped by the Super Eagles, Promise featured in seven Turkish top sides including Genclerbirligi, Trabzonspor, Maniaspor, Belikesirspor Karabukspor, Giresunspor, amongst others in a career that spanned feom 2005 to 2019, including brief spell at Georgia Revolution in 2018 before joining Austin BOLD at the start of the current season.
“The greatest loss a team can suffer is not on the scoreboard, it’s the death of a fellow teammate,” Epstein said on Thursday.
“It’s with shock and grief that we acknowledge the sudden death of Promise Isaac.
“On behalf of the BOLD organisation; we wish his wife, children and family strength and peace as they struggle to cope with his death,” the club boss president.
The club chairman did not provide details of Isaac Promise death as regards cause.
