Corpse Disappears In Plateau Morgue, Raising Tension Among Relatives, Hospital Staff (Updated: Thursday, 4th November 2021, 08:14 AM)

Serious tension took over the Bingham University Teaching Hospital Jos, the Plateau State Capital on Wednesday morning, as the family of a deceased person couldn’t find the corpse of their relative at the mortuary, according to Our Source.

Our Source gathered that the deceased, David Atimbi Adi a 33-year-old man passed away last week after a protracted illness, and his corpse was deposited at the mortuary of the aforementioned hospital last Thursday.

However, after arrangements were concluded for his burial, his family could no longer find his corpse at the morgue.

A family member, Mr Paul, told Our Source, “Our brother died last week after a protracted illness and we deposited his corpse at the Bingham University Hospital Jos, unfortunately, we got here this morning so that we can go and bury him in Rukuba, in Bassa LGA, and his corpse was nowhere to be found.

“This is ridiculous; they must be joking, we are even hearing that the corpse was taken since Monday, by who?

“We don’t want any trouble, all we are saying is they should produce our brother’s remains so that he can be laid to rest”, he maintained.

Also speaking to Our Source, Mr Benjamin, a neighbour to the deceased said, “It is unfortunate we are hearing this kind of story, this young man is an orphan, who was very sick, he was even assisted by friends so that he can get treated, sadly he passed on.

“Now we are here to go and bury him and we are hearing another pathetic story, this is pure negligence on the part of the management of this hospital”, he lamented.

“Well, we are not leaving this place until they bring out his corpse; he suffered before he died, should he still suffer in death?

The deceased is survived by his wife and a child.

Meanwhile, when our correspondent came to the Bingham University Teaching Hospital gate, there were security operatives at the front of the gate, while the main entrance and exit gates were locked.

Our Source reports that mourners were seen inside the hospital’s premises wondering how such a thing could have happened and demanding that the corpse be produced.

When contacted, the Spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, ASP Gabriel Ogaba said, “I am yet to get information about that sir.

“Will furnish you with information as soon as I get”, he maintained.
