ASUU And Federal Government Comes To An ‘AGREEMENT’ After 8-Hours Meeting (Read Full Details) (Updated: 3 years ago)


The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says it has reached concrete proposals with the Nigerian authorities on the ongoing strike which is set to be resolved sooner as they both comes to an agreement.

 

Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU President referred to this in Abuja whilst addressing newsmen Tuesday night.

 

He spoke at the cease of a meeting at the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

 

NAN reports that the meeting which commenced by using 3;00 p.m, ended at about 11:00 p.m.

 

ASUU commenced the warning strike on March 9, 2020, over troubles of the revitalization of universities, earned academic allowance.

 

Others are visitation panel, mainstreaming and most importantly Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) always and exceptional problems touching on to university funding.

 

Ogunyemi mentioned the ASUU administration will meet individuals to make a decision.

 

“Those of us right here cannot provide the final pronouncements on any of the proposals and we have guaranteed the authorities that we will report faithfully to our principals and get back to authorities accordingly.

 

“We want to guarantee all Nigerians that we are issue on going back to our work like every and each and every distinctive person, due to the fact we recognize that is the place we find happiness, we are no longer cozy outdoor our classrooms, our laboratories, and our libraries”, he said.

 

Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, demonstrated every party had fruitful deliberations on contentious issues, specifically the subject of IPPIS.

He said,

“We made new suggestions on behalf of FG to ASUU. These troubles differ from funding, revitalization of public universities, earned academic allowances, profits shortfalls in the Federal University of Akure and the trouble of state universities.

“We moreover addressed payment of earned academic allowances to the University of Ilorin. On the Nigerian University Pension Commission, certificates were once issued last 12 months then again operational certificates had not been issued due to the fact we do not have a fixed PENCOM board in place.

“We have made thought on how NUPENCO board will be capable to fulfill its obligation, mainly in phrases of guidance of annual audit reports.

“The issue of visitation panel to the universities has been on the desk considering last year. The Government side made an improvement and that approval has been gotten, and we are ready for the gazette of the membership of the visitation panel. ”
