The Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, has spoken about the challenges President Buhari faced when it assumed office

- Lawan praised the leadership qualities of Buhari
- The Senate leader said the APC administration is doing its best to develop the country

The Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, said President Muhammadu Buhari inherited an empty treasury from the past administration of Goodluck Jonathan in 2015. Lawan was reported to have made the statement on Thursday, November 26, at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretariat in Abuja, The Tribune reported.

Ahmad Lawan has praised the APC leadership.

He said: “Though we inherited an empty treasury, the price of crude went down so badly, yet, the little resources we started with provided a lot more of infrastructure, of services to the people of this country." Lawan described President Buhari's leadership as purposeful, prudent, and guided by integrity.

The Senate leader said the current administration was doing its best to develop infrastructure across the country despite the low revenue from oil. Meanwhile, following the recent defections that hit the PDP, Ahmad Lawan, the Senate president has explained why the APC will continue to harvest more defectors.

The Nation reported that Lawan explained that President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration was starting to get appreciated by the people. The president of the legislative upper chamber made the disclosure when he led Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo and fellow defector the PDP in Adamawa to the party's national secretariat.

In another report, Senator Ishaku Abbo, the lawmaker representing Adamawa North in the National Assembly, has revealed why he defected from the PDP to the ruling APC. Daily Trust reported that the senator said he dumped the leading opposition party for the APC to attract federal presence in his district.

Abbo said: “My main mission of joining the APC is because I have seen justice, I have seen development and I have seen desire for the leadership at the highest peak to sacrifice their personal comfort just to make the poor people to feel good. So I am in the APC to deliver. I am in the APC to help the people."
